The Road tool now ships with a full library of real-world street type presets, so you can draw a collector road or a divided boulevard with the correct lane count, median, buffer, and sidewalk widths already dialed in — instead of tuning five separate fields by hand for every segment.
It's built around how roads actually get specified on a civil site plan: pick the classification that matches your project, draw, and adjust from there if a segment needs to be different.
Built-in presets, from alley to parkway
Eight presets ship out of the box, spanning the full range of a typical site plan or subdivision:
- Alley / Service Lane — single 9' lane, no median, no sidewalk
- Residential Street — single 10' lane, 3' buffer, 4' sidewalk
- Commercial/Industrial Street — single 12' lane, wider buffer and sidewalk for truck traffic
- Collector Road (2-Lane) — 11' lanes with a 10' landscaped median
- Minor Arterial (4-Lane) — two 11' lanes per side with a 14' median
- Boulevard (Divided) — two 11' lanes per side, a wide 20' median, and a generous 10' sidewalk
- Major Arterial (6-Lane) — three 12' lanes per side for heavier through-traffic
- Parkway / Divided Highway — three 12' lanes per side with a 60' median, no sidewalk
Pick before you draw
The Road tool's toolbar flyout now lists every preset — built-in and custom — as its own option. Choose one before you start drawing and the new segment carries that lane width, median, buffer, and sidewalk configuration from the very first click, rather than starting generic and needing a properties-panel cleanup afterward.
Already have a road selected? Switching its preset from the properties panel updates the whole segment in place. Adjust any individual field afterward and the road is automatically relabeled "Custom," so you always know at a glance whether a segment still matches a named standard or has been hand-tuned.
Save your own presets
Dial in a lane width, median, buffer, and sidewalk combination that isn't one of the eight built-ins, and you can save it as a named custom preset right from the properties panel. It's stored as a user-level preference, shared across every project you open, so a standard you define once — say, a specific DOT cross-section or a client's typical street — is available from the picker on your very next site plan. Custom presets can be deleted individually when you no longer need them; the built-in eight are always there as a baseline.
Street trees along the buffer
Any road with a buffer now generates street trees automatically, spaced on a regular interval down both sides. There's nothing to place by hand — draw the road, and a consistent row of canopy appears in the buffer strip in both 2D and 3D, giving planted rights-of-way a far more realistic read without extra clicks.
Together, presets, the pre-draw picker, and street trees are about getting a road network to a presentation-ready state faster — matching real classification standards from the first segment instead of retrofitting them after the fact.
